As Friday’s NHL trade deadline approaches, the Anaheim Ducks aren’t one of the teams most susceptible to trade rumors.

But that doesn’t mean they won’t be involved. They might just be a team that’s more careful with their position selection.
One of them could involve Ryan Strome.
With the Ducks finding other forwards to fill key roles, Strome has moved away from his previous leadership role in the team’s offense.
Considering Strome’s experience and talent, he could certainly be a contender as a backup.
Chris Johnston of The Athletic explained these reasons and more when he included Strome on the latest trade committee announced Monday.
“The emergence of high-end forward talent in Anaheim has marginalized Strome’s impact on this season’s lineup, with his playing time significantly reduced as a result,” Johnston wrote. “Even if his production declines, the Ducks should be able to find a replacement for a center who has averaged better than 0.5 points per game throughout his NHL career. Strome is a smart player who can play a fast game and has one more season under contract beyond this one.”

Johnston mentioned that Strome has the added benefit of not being a free agent after this season.
The team that traded for Strome knew it would put him in the playoffs this season and again next season.
It’s hard to have too many quality centers around this time of year, so if Strome is indeed under consideration, he should have some real suitors. In return, the Ducks get younger assets in hopes of continuing to develop their roster in a positive direction.
