Spurs extend winning run to close gap on Thunder

The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Toronto Raptors, extending their winning streak and closing in on the NBA Western Conference leader Oklahoma City Thunder.

Devin Vassell scored 21 points, De’Aaron Fox added 20, and the visitors won 110-107 at Scotiabank Arena to win ten consecutive games for the first time since the 2015-16 season.

Victor Wembanyama scored just 12 points for the Spurs, but made a crucial block, his fifth of the game, with 44 seconds left.

The Spurs improved to 42-16, while the Thunder improved to 45-15 after losing to the Eastern Conference leader Detroit Pistons 124-116.

The Pistons’ Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren each scored 29 points, while NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander missed his ninth consecutive Thunder game with an injury.

The Pistons improved to 43-14, ahead of the Thunder for the league’s best record, and extended their lead over the Boston Celtics at the top of the Eastern Conference, who lost to the Denver Nuggets 103-84.

Nikola Jokic scored 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Nuggets.

The Milwaukee Bucks overcame the absence of two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo due to a calf injury to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 118-116 at home.

The Cavaliers were without newly signed James Harden after he suffered a broken thumb in Tuesday’s win over the New York Knicks.

The Houston Rockets beat the Sacramento Kings 128-97 for their biggest win of the season, while the Golden State Warriors defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 133-112.
