Vanity Project Upset Darkstate For WWE NXT Tag Titles

Despite the help of Tony D’Angelo, The Vanity Project defeated Dark State during “WWE NXT” to become the NXT Tag Team Champions.

The champs looked well on their way to defending their title, with Saquon Shugars taking an early lead over Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes, but were ultimately stifled by the challenger’s bait-and-switch style. Osiris Griffin turned the tables in Dark State’s favor, dominating the ring and pinning Baylor with a chokeslam and a double chokeslam on Smoks.

He returns to Shuggs, who appears to be taking his stuff home after being kicked by the Doomsday Device. That was until Jackson Drake put Baylor’s foot on the ropes, causing him to fall off the side of the ring. This prompted Cutler James and Dion Lennox to also stand on the sidelines, arguing with Drake and distracting officials.

With this distraction, D’Angelo appears in the ring, tosses Sugar to the apron and rolls Baylor back into the ring. Baylor then made the cover of Shugars, winning the match and the championship, his and Smokers’ first since joining “NXT” from “WWE Evolve.”

Dark State defended their title for the third time in 123 days, having previously defeated Je’Von Evans and Leon Slater and OTM in November and January respectively. Vanity Project defeated OTM, Hank and Tank, Shawn Spears and Niko Vance for the chance on last week’s show.
