Breece Hall on staying with the Jets long-term: ‘Whatever happens, happens’

Brees Hall is the last man standing for the New York Jets after the 2025 NFL trade deadline. Hall watched as both Soos Gardner and Quinnen Williams were traded away, making him the embodiment of Will Smith at the end of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Hall finished the season with the Jets and now has a chance for a change of scenery. If his comments on Saturday were any indication, Hall appears to be very open to the possibility of playing elsewhere in the near future.

When asked about his long-term vision for the Jets, Hall wasn’t fully committed to the team. “I don’t know,” he told the New York Post, before adding, “I’ve been working on this for the last six or seven months. But now I just feel like whatever happens, happens.”

It wasn’t the strongest response, although it could be a hint that Hall is testing the free agency waters. While Hall was not traded before the deadline, there were rumors that the Jets were trying to trade the 24-year-old running back. There are also rumors that Hall wants to leave New York. Neither side went as expected, and Hall remained with the team for the remainder of the season.

It wasn’t the result Hall wanted, but he still had a solid season. Hall rushed for a career-high 1,065 yards in 2025 and scored four touchdowns. He also caught 36 passes for 350 yards and one score. While Hall didn’t score much, it’s hard to blame him for that. The Jets ranked 29th in scoring last season.

This has been remarkably consistent during Hall’s tenure. In his four years with the Jets, the team’s highest scoring ranking was 24th. Hall – a former second-round pick – has shown flashes of potential but has been saddled with a poor offensive environment.

This offseason will provide Hall with a chance to prove he’s been held back by bad circumstances. Hall is one of the best running backs on the market, and he could be joining a strong team before the 2026 NFL season. With a stronger quarterback and a better defensive line, Hall could be on the verge of a true breakout season.

If he sticks with the Jets, that feels…unlikely…to happen. New York appears to be in the midst of a rebuild after last year’s free-agent signing of Justin Fields failed to make headway. The Jets have the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and may be hoping to land a quarterback with that pick. While some rookies have shown the ability to immediately elevate a team – look at Jaden Daniels’ rookie year – it’s not a common experience – look at Caleb Williams and Derek Meyer in their rookie seasons.

Hall is certainly aware of this and can prioritize situations that allow him to both thrive and win games. He hasn’t done much of the latter during his career. Hall had a record of just 22-46 after being drafted by the Jets.

After four years of failure, it sounds like the running back is ready for a change.
