Jose Riveiro began his tenure as AIK Fotboll head coach with a 2-0 loss to Vasteras SK in the Swedish Cup on Sunday.

The Spanish mentor took over the reins last month, ending speculation that he could return to the Premier League.

Rivero has been single after a turbulent period at Egyptian giants Al Ahly, where he was sacked just three months after taking the job.

The 50-year-old tactician, who has guided the side to 12 African titles at the FIFA Club World Cup, has registered one win in seven games overseen from the Red Devils dugout.

By contrast, Rivero enjoyed success at South African heavyweights Orlando Pirates, guiding them to five domestic cup titles during his time in charge.

Now starting a new campaign in Sweden, he will no doubt be hungry for a good result when his side face second division side IK Oddvold in the cup on Saturday.

The Swedish Cup is divided into seven groups, each group consists of four teams, and the winner of the group will advance to the next stage of the competition.

With AIK currently sitting bottom of Group 7 ahead of their final two games, it remains to be seen whether Rivero can lead his side into the next stage of the competition.
