Through Sunday, “1 to 3 inches of snow could fall in counties bordering Tennessee, with isolated accumulations of 3 to 6 inches above 3,500 feet,” in the mountains through Sunday, according to a National Weather Service hazardous weather outlook advisory.

“High winds and cold temperatures Sunday night will result in single-digit wind chill values across a wide area of the mountains,” National Weather Service forecasters said on Day X.

According to the National Weather Service, “wind chill values above 4,000 feet are expected to be below zero.” “Wind chill values will be in the teens and single digits again Monday night.”

Emergency officials said cold weather shelters in Asheville will be open Sunday. The forecast calls for temperatures of 20 degrees, with snow showers and “squally winds”.
