Clemson’s struggles continued Wednesday night in Winston-Salem as the Tigers lost their third straight game to Wake Forest 85-77. Brad Brownell’s team, which hadn’t lost on the road in the ACC in more than a year before taking on Duke last weekend, has now lost back-to-back road games and is looking for stability at a critical time in the season.
The setback improves Clemson to 20-7 overall and 10-4 in ACC play, leaving the Tigers fourth in the conference standings. The margin for error is shrinking as games against North Carolina and Louisville approach. Both teams sit behind Clemson in the league and could take the lead if the Tigers can’t stay consistent down the stretch.

Even with a three-game slump, Clemson remains in respectable form from a resume standpoint. The Tigers currently sit at No. 33 in the NET rankings, dropping two spots with the loss. Wednesday’s loss was classified as a Quad 1 loss, and Wake Forest moved up to No. 58 in the Nets rankings with the win. Clemson’s resume now includes a 4-5 record in Quads 1, a 6-2 record in Quads 2, and a perfect 5-0 record in Quads 3 and Quads 4.
Clemson will look to stem the slide when Florida State visits Littlejohn Stadium for a midday tip-off on Saturday. The Seminoles are 13-13 overall and 6-7 in conference play, having won five of their past six games. With both their playoff positioning and the ACC standings on the line, the Tigers will need a strong response at home to regain momentum heading into March.
