No.11 Rutgers Wrestling Crushes Hofstra 45-3 in Final Regular Season Duel

The No. 11 Rutgers wrestling team defeated Hofstra 45-3 in its final regular-season matchup. After a disappointing first game, the Scarlet Knights won nine games in a row and recorded a dominant victory.

Some highlights from the match include No. 6 Joseph Olivieri (141) pinning Chase Liardi, No. 28 Andrew Clark (149) scoring 18 points vs. Jackson Slotnick, and Devon Magro (157) scoring 17 points vs. ric Schindel Schindel, No. 20 Lenny Pinto (174) scored 18 points against Matt Rogers, and Jordan Chapman (184) had heavyweight Hunter Catka pin the win.

The Knights’ only loss of the night came in the 125-pound match when No. 24 Ayden Smith was pinned by Teague Strobel.

This dual season will be another success for Scott Goodell as head coach. Rutgers finished fifth in the Big Ten this season, one of its best finishes since joining the conference. They ended the season with six straight wins to secure the final victory. This is the program’s ninth 14-win season with Goodell as coach. The Cavaliers also won the Big Ten Conference Tournament for the second straight season, going 5-3 in conference play and 14-5 overall.

To highlight the program’s even greater success this year, they hired 125-pound recruit Anthony Knox, the highest-rated recruit the program has ever seen.

The Rutgers wrestling team will have a few weeks off before heading to Happy Valley for the Big Ten Championships. The events will be held March 7-8 at the Bryce Jordan Center.
