British stone. Paul, Minnesota (FOX 9) – Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said he would rather “eat glass” when asked if he would fill Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s Senate seat if she were elected governor.

what are they talking about
Walz does not plan to fill out Senator Klobuchar’s Senate term if she is elected governor in November.
Walz quipped during a news conference at the Minnesota State Capitol on the first day of the legislative session.
“The context is that Eric asked me if I would fill out Senator Klobuchar’s Senate term, and I said I would rather eat glass than do that,” Walz said. “That’s a choice.”
If Klobuchar wins the governor’s seat, she will resign from the Senate. Minnesota law says Governor Walz can appoint someone to fill a Senate seat before a special election is held. If Klobuchar does not win the election, she will remain Minnesota’s U.S. senator.
Walz ended the press conference by joking that he hoped the legislative session would end on time so he could “start looking for a job.”

Backstory
Walz announced his decision not to run for a third term earlier this year, saying he wanted to focus on defending Minnesotans rather than engaging in political campaigning. He stressed that every minute spent on political gain could be better spent protecting the country from fraud and division.

Walz initially announced his intention to run for a third term in September 2025, but changed his mind by January 2026. Insiders say he never fully planned to run for re-election and hoped other candidates would step forward.
Later in January, Klobuchar announced she would run for governor.
Klobuchar is the only Democrat currently in the race. Republican candidates include House Speaker Lisa Demuth (R-Cold Spring), My Pillow CEO Mike Linedell and Army veteran Kendall Qualls, among others.
Former state Sen. Scott Jensen dropped out of the gubernatorial race to run for state auditor instead.
