EF-1 tornado confirmed in Shelby County on Valentine’s Day

SHELBY COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – The National Weather Service in Shreveport has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Shelby County on Saturday.

The 1.0834-mile-long tornado touched down along County Road 3156 around 7:03 p.m. Saturday. It knocked down several trees and then headed southeast across Highway 7 to intersect with County Road 3153, snapping off some softwood trees.

It continued southeast and was suspected to have ended after crossing County Road 3215, where an outbuilding was destroyed. The tornado lifted off around 7:05 p.m., just minutes before touching down.

“Localized tree trunk snaps were also evident around a pond west of County Road 3215,” the National Weather Service explained. “Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities from this brief tornado.”

The National Weather Service said the tornado had peak wind speeds of about 95 miles per hour and a maximum width of about 275 yards.
