So far, they haven’t, and an extension is still being negotiated, but the focus now is on the newest starting pitcher to join the rotation, and that’s Flamber Valdez.
The two sides agreed to a three-year, $115 million contract, but he wasn’t the only addition. The club also agreed to return veteran Justin Verlander on a one-year, $13 million deal.

With a team like this, the front office can focus on other things, like expanding on some young talent. Riley Greene could be a leading candidate for an extension, and MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand breaks down why.
Green is on the list for the second straight season, having set career highs with 36 home runs, 111 RBIs and a .493 slugging percentage in 157 games last season, even though his bWAR dropped from 5.4 to 2.2 in 2025. Green will make $5 million this year and is eligible to play two more seasons, making the 25-year-old a prime candidate for a contract extension from the Tigers. —Especially if they don’t believe they’ll re-sign Tarik Skubal next offseason.”
Green is coming off a monster season where he was a vital part of the club’s offense. If he misses again this upcoming season, it will only cost Detroit more money.
It makes a lot of sense for Detroit to get an extension early with its rising power.
