Carlos Alcaraz takes on Alex de Minaur in a blockbuster Australian Open quarter-final, with the final home singles hope facing the world number one in sweltering Melbourne heat.

World number one Alcaraz continues his bid for a first Australian Open title that would complete the Grand Slam, while De Minaur aims to finally break his quarter-final spell.

Sixth-seeded De Minaur has reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam six times but not the semifinals, including five times in the past two seasons.

He will also have to overcome an 0-5 record against the Spaniard, including a crushing loss at the ATP Finals last season, and the expected sweltering heat in Melbourne.

However, De Minaur will be cheered on by his home crowd as he dreams of becoming the first Australian man to win the Australian Open since Mark Edmondson in 1976.

Alcaraz v De Minaur start time

The match, last scheduled to take place at Rod Laver Arena, follows the women’s quarter-final match between Coco Gauff and Elina Svitolina, which will kick off at 8:00am GMT (UK time). Alcaraz and de Minaur are expected to appear in court at around 10am GMT, which should avoid the worst of Tuesday’s heat.
