Elliott Avent discusses 2026 NC State team with D1Baseball

With baseball season less than a month away, NC State will face the University of Washington on February 13 in Puerto Rico. This week, Elliott Avent joins D1Baseball’s Daron Vaught and Bradley Smart to discuss his team and the season ahead.

Avent said State could have played in a Texas tournament early in the year (possibly this one), but chose Puerto Rico after consulting with his “good friend” Eduardo Perez (who knew!).

He talked about some of the returning players who impressed in the fall (Luke Nixon, Drew Lanphier, Brayden Flasman, Cooper Consiglio) and said he has the most confidence in the pitching staff right now. He also mentioned that this happened recently when an unnamed pitcher sliced open a finger on his non-throwing hand while carving venison (?!). Hope this isn’t a bad sign.

There was plenty more in the discussion, including insight into Jacob Dudan’s transition to the starting lineup. He’s been working on his third pitch (changeup?) this offseason. This will be one of the team’s major storylines at the start of the year.
