Even though the start of the college baseball season is still a few weeks away, the Texas Longhorns are already making headlines. D1Baseball released its preseason Top 25 rankings on Monday, with the Longhorns ranked No. 3. This is the second-highest ranking for the Longhorns in the 12-year history of D1Baseball’s preseason.
The Longhorns’ impressive ranking is due in part to the work they’ve put in over the past few months. Their new additions to the transfer portal include Aiden Robbins, Luke Dotson, Carson Tinney, Ashton Larson, Karl Higgins and Hayden Love. They’ll also get some help from talented veterans like Dylan Volantes.
While Texas is considered one of the best teams in the country, it’s not the only SEC program to advance. Other SEC programs included in the preseason poll include No. 2 LSU, No. 4 Mississippi State, No. 7 Arkansas, No. 9 Auburn, No. 13 Florida State, No. 14 Tennessee, No. 15 Georgia, No. 18 Kentucky, No. 23 Vanderbilt and No. 25 Texas A&M. This shows how competitive the conference will be.

For Texas, the high praise comes after one of their best seasons in program history. They finished the 2025 season with a 44-14 record, their best record in 15 years. The Longhorns also made history by becoming the first team since the league’s founding in 1933 to win the SEC regular season title in its inaugural season.
The Longhorns are looking to build on their success and have a roster filled with talented players. If they can live up to expectations, they will be one of the toughest teams in the SEC. While they went 22-8 in conference play last year, they have their sights set on something bigger: a national championship.
