Texas A&M transfer OT Jonte Newman commits to Texas

A young offensive lineman in the Lone Star Showdown with former Texas A&M Aggies offensive tackle Jonte Newman committed to the Texas Longhorns on Wednesday, a low-key development.

The 6-foot-4, 331-pounder has four seasons of eligibility remaining.

Newman, who graduated from Cypress Bridgeland in the 2025 recruiting class, received an offer from Texas after taking unofficial visits to Austin and College Station, committed to Texas A&M during a summer visit and signed with the Aggies in December. Other offers include Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor State, Cal, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, TCU, Tennessee, Texas Tech and USC. Newman is a consensus four-star prospect who ranks as the No. 346 player nationally and the No. 20 interior offensive lineman according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Newman, who gained nearly 50 pounds in high school during his only season at Aggieland after playing seven games at right tackle against Samford, is a developmental swing for the Corners, who may need immediate depth due to depletion at the position.

Newman is the second gateway commitment this month for Texas offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Kyle Flood, joining Oregon State transfer linebacker Dylan Sikorski.
