The EA Sports F1 series will buck the trend of annual releases and will not release a new full F1 game next year. EA Sports will roll out a content update for F1 25, EA announced on Tuesday, bringing the racing simulator up to speed with the 2026 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season. A new, complete EA Sports F1 game with bigger changes and new features, due to be released in 2027.
EA has laid out plans for the “future” of the EA Sports F1 series, with new titles launching every year starting in 2021. However, there will be no F1 26 next year. EA and developer Codemasters will release a paid expansion pack for F1 25 that will “align with the sport’s major changes for the 2026 season.” Premium content updates will add new cars, sport regulations, teams and drivers to suit the new season of Formula 1.
New complete F1 game for 2027
The new mainline F1 game will be released in 2027, which is different from the games released every year. EA said in its statement that the next full game will be “reimagined to provide a broader range of gaming experiences and new ways to play for fans around the world.”
The company said: “…the refreshed experience will extend what longtime players love about the game and celebrate the passion of Formula 1 with a game that immerses new and old players alike in the modern era of the sport.”
EA said the decision to skip new games in 2026 is part of a multi-year strategic investment in the EA Sports F1 series and is supported by Formula 1 management and F1 teams.
Lee Mather, senior creative director at Codemasters, said: “Our multi-year plan continues this year’s excitement with expansions for 2026 and reimagines the F1 experience in 2027 to deliver more for players of all levels around the world.”
EA and Codemasters will reveal more details about F1 25’s 2026 expansion next year, including the DLC’s price and release date. F1 25 launches on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X on May 30, 2025.
