The Detroit Lions are looking for a new coordinator and another is interviewing for the head coaching job.
The Miami Dolphins have requested permission to interview Lions defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard for their vacant coaching position, according to ESPN and NFL Network.

Sheppard is completing his first season as the Lions’ defensive coordinator and played linebacker for the Dolphins in 2014-15.

Looking for OC: Mike McDaniel to interview for Lions OC job as other options emerge
The Dolphins fired Mike McDaniel last week after four seasons as coach. The Lions were one of several teams interested in interviewing him for a job.
McDaniel will reportedly interview for top jobs with four teams: the Browns, Falcons, Titans and Ravens. The Lions are considering hiring John Morton as offensive coordinator after firing him last week.
Sheppard, 38, spent four seasons as the Lions’ linebackers coach before being promoted to D.C. last winter.

He is considered a strong leader and potential future head coach, although it may be too early to get the top job.
The Lions ranked 18th in total defense this season, including 14th against the run, allowing 24.3 points per game, but the team struggled down the stretch as the Lions lost three of their final four games and missed the playoffs.
