Former Oklahoma DB set to transfer to Utah

The Oklahoma Sooners have been heavily in and out of the transfer portal over the past few days, and that behavior is far from stopping. One of the exits has found a new home in the portal, where he will make his college debut.

Former OU defensive back Marcus Wimberly announced Tuesday that he will transfer to Utah State. Wimberley, a member of Oklahoma’s 2025 recruiting class, lasted just one year in Norman. Wimberley did not play in a Sooners game after undergoing shoulder surgery in June. He has four years of eligibility remaining with the Utes after redshirting last year.

Utah is in a transition phase heading into 2026, with Morgan Scalley taking over as head coach following the departure of longtime head coach Kyle Whittingham. Now, the Utes will be adding a young safety to their defense, and Wimberly is a player who still has a lot of potential.

Wimberley also continues the trend of former OU players heading to Big 12 schools. Utah’s new young safety joins defensive back Devin Jordan (Baylor), quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. (West Virginia), defensive back Malik Hawkins (West Virginia) and offensive lineman Jake Taylor (Iowa State) as players on Oklahoma’s 2025 roster who will play in the Big 12 next year.
