TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for a 77-year-old woman who fell overboard aboard a Holland America cruise ship out of Florida.
The woman reportedly fell overboard on New Year’s Day aboard the Nieuw Statendam, about 40 miles northeast of Savannah, Cuba, officials said.

On Thursday, multiple crews were out at sea and in the air searching for her. They covered 690 square miles and after about eight hours decided to call off the search.

Records show the ship left Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on Dec. 27 for a New Year’s themed cruise. The ship was scheduled to dock in Key West on January 2 and then return to port.
