Anderson scores 29 points as No. 15 Texas Tech wins 46th straight non-conference home game

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Christian Anderson scored 29 points, including Texas Tech’s final 16 of the first half, and the 15th-ranked Red Raiders extended their non-conference home winning streak to 46 games with an 87-57 victory over Winthrop on Sunday.

Jaylen Petty scored 20 points for the Red Raiders (10-3) and preseason All-American forward JT Toppin had 14 points and 11 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season and his 26th in 45 games over two seasons with Tech. Donovan Atwell hit 4 three-pointers and scored 14 points.

Kareem Rozier and Logan Duncomb each scored 11 points for Winthrop (8-7).

At halftime, Anderson scored 25 points and single-handedly outscored Winthrop 59-21. Anderson had made all four 3-pointers by that point.

Eight days later, Anderson scored 23 points in the second half of his last game as the Red Raiders came from a 17-point deficit to beat the then-No. 1 team. 3 Duke 82-81 at Madison Square Garden.

Winthrop’s previous six losses were by a total of 26 points, including the biggest loss to Nebraska, which was by 7 points. The Eagles lost 84-83 to No. 18 Arkansas, a team that defeated Tech earlier this month.

Tech quickly took a 7-0 lead after Toppin’s two layups and Anderson’s three-point assist. Winthrop then missed 14 consecutive shots and went on a 24-0 run in eight minutes.

The Red Raiders’ last non-league home loss was in overtime on January 25, 2020, to No. 15 Kentucky. They are 23-0 in non-league home games under third-year coach Grant McCasland.
