Wisconsin’s Mimi Colyer a finalist for national volleyball player of year

As Wisconsin volleyball competes in the NCAA Final Four, the Badgers’ star outside hitter is one of the final four players in the running for the sport’s top individual award.

The AVCA announced on Dec. 14 that Mimi Colyer was a finalist for National Team Player of the Year, joining Nebraska setter Bergen Reilly, Pittsburgh setter Olivia Babcock and Kentucky outside hitter Eva Hudson.

Coryell has been dominant in her only season with the Badgers. The Oregon transfer averaged 5.39 kills per game, which ranked third among all Division I players and first among players on his team entering the second weekend of the NCAA tournament. Her output hit .340 — seventh among all outside hitters.

The 6-foot-3 senior had at least 10 kills in all but one match this season, and her play improved in the postseason. She has recorded 20-plus kills in each of Wisconsin’s past three games, including a 27-kill performance against Stanford in the regional semifinals.

The winners will be announced at the AVCA Awards Dinner on Friday, December 19. Babcock, Collier and Hudson will all play in the national semifinals on Dec. 18, with Collier’s Badgers taking on Hudson’s Wildcats in the final game of the night.
