China says talks with EU on electric vehicle minimum price plan resumed

<span>Story: China has restarted talks with the EU on electric vehicles.</span><span>Beijing said on Thursday (December 11) that negotiations over plans for a minimum price for Chinese-made electric vehicles have been restarted and will continue into next week.</span><span>The negotiations come more than a year after the European Union approved tariffs of up to 45.3% on Chinese electric vehicles.</span><span>The European Commission has opened an investigation into whether Chinese electric carmakers receive unfair subsidies, which could lead to a supply glut in Europe.</span><span>China argued that its manufacturers were simply more competitive than European rivals.</span><span>Beijing has also urged Brussels to accept a minimum price scheme in lieu of tariffs.</span><span>Analysts say the EU is an important market for Chinese automakers.</span><span>In particular, they are facing shrinking profits at home due to price wars and deflation.</span><span>Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesman He Yadong said China welcomes the EU’s renewed commitment to restart price negotiations.</span><span>However, the commission has previously said it does not believe a single minimum price is sufficient to offset the harm caused by subsidies.</span>
