As a Stockton native, I grew up hearing about the Devil’s appearance at the Flamingo Club in 1995.
The infamous club was once located at Charter Street and Wilson Road, just 2.2 miles from his childhood home.
Whenever my grandmother would take me to the San Joaquin County Fair or we would drive by Rancho San Miguel, I would hear, “Everything is okay, Mila.”
Translation: “Look, that’s where the devil appears.”
In Stockton, many people believe that the Devil himself made an appearance at a nightclub in July 1995.
At the time, The Record collected testimonies about what happened.
Rumor has it that on or around Father’s Day, a charismatic man wearing gold jewelry walked into the club. When he asks a young woman to dance, everyone’s eyes are on the man.
As the woman and the man were dancing, she glanced down and allegedly saw the man’s feet not touching the floor.
As she screamed, the lights at the facility were turned off, and when they finally came back on, the woman was covered in blood and had somehow been “viciously cut.”
Officers handcuffed the man, locked him in the back of a patrol car and began interviewing witnesses.
When officers returned to check on the suspect in custody, he was gone.
Only the handcuffs remained.
What is the moral of this story for my family? Don’t go to nightclubs or you might be dancing with the devil.
Literally.
