Microsoft is reportedly preparing to bring more exclusive games to rival platforms from Sony and Nintendo in 2025. After launching some Xbox games on the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch last year, the company may be preparing its larger franchises, including Gears of War, for the PS5 and possibly the Nintendo Switch follow-up console this year. Last week, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection were expected to launch on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025.
More Xbox games coming to PS5 in 2025
A report from Windows Central last week claimed that Microsoft intends to double down on its multi-platform strategy in 2025, bringing more Xbox games to PS5 and possibly even more games to the yet-to-be-announced Nintendo Switch successor. The report cited sources as saying that “Senna’s Legend: Hellblade II”, “Age of Mythology: Retelling” and “Gears of War: Definitive Edition” may be released on PS5 this year, and possibly on Nintendo Switch 2.
Hellblade 2 released on Xbox Series S/X last May, while Age of Mythology: Retold, a remake of 2002 real-time strategy game Age of Mythology, released on current-gen Xbox consoles and PC in September. Gears of War: Definitive Edition, a remaster of the first game in the Gears of War series, was released on Xbox One in 2015 and on PC a year later.
The report also confirms last week’s claim that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection will launch on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025. The information originally came from gaming industry insider NateTheHate, who has previously made accurate predictions about the game’s release.
The source also claims that Final Fantasy VII Remake will be coming to Xbox this year, with Final Fantasy VII Reborn launching on the platform in 2026.

Microsoft multi-platform strategy
Xbox games are rumored to be coming to rival platforms in 2025, suggesting Microsoft continues to push for more games on PS5 and Nintendo Switch. The Xbox parent company began shifting to a multi-platform release strategy for its exclusive games in 2024, starting with games like Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, Pentiment and Grounded.
Over the past year, the company has been working on bringing major new releases and upcoming releases to the PS5. Bethesda’s Indiana Jones and the Circle launched on Xbox Series S/X and PC in December and is expected to be released on PS5 in the first half of this year, while Doom: The Dark Age will release on Xbox, PC, and PS5 in 2025.
In November, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer told Bloomberg that he wouldn’t rule out any games from Microsoft’s stable making the jump to PS5 or Switch. “I don’t see a ‘you can’t do this’ red line in our portfolio,” he said at the time, but added that it was too early to make any decisions about the next version of Halo.
