2025 SuperMotocross 450 Countdown, No. 8: Ken Roczen

Ken Roczen is one of the dirt bike racers who proves that age is really just a number. In a brutal sport where many riders retire in their 20s, Roczen will be 32 years old midway through the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross season.

Roczen was third in the standings after Round 15 in Pittsburgh, Pa., when he decided to withdraw from the final two rounds to allow an ankle injury to heal. At the time, he was 54 points behind leader Cooper Webb and was mathematically eliminated from the championship game.

Roczen returned to Unadilla for one Pro Motocross race to knock off some rust, but once the playoffs began, his top-20 seed in the Supercross World Championship was no longer in question.

Aaron Plessinger was aiming to have the best season of his career until health issues sidelined him in late 2025.

After dropping two spots and finishing fifth in the Supercross points and only scoring points in one outdoor race, Roczen finished 11th in the playoffs and had some gap to make up.

If he feels he has something to prove, he does it with ease.

He hovered around fifth in all three playoff rounds, finishing sixth due to weather conditions in the opening race at zMax Dragway in Concord, North Carolina, and fourth in St. Louis, Missouri, and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ken Roczen became the sixth winner of 2025, tying the record for most wins in a Supercross season.

That consistency was enough for him to finish fourth in the SMX Playoffs, following a second-place finish in 2023 and a sixth-place finish in 2024. What’s even more impressive is that he achieved such great results on a bike that lacked full factory support.

Roczen’s tenure with Pipes Motorsports Group has made them a top choice among fans and experts, and Roczen renews contract with group until 2026. Considering his age and several injuries over the past few seasons, the rider and team are looking for new performances every year.

Highlights of the 2025 season are Roczen’s Daytona Supercross victory. In a field without Eli Tomac and Jett Lawrence, it’s clear that a new winner will be crowned, but that doesn’t diminish the achievement.

Additionally, before the mixed race, Roczen had already recorded four second-place finishes and a fifth podium finish. The only time he failed to stay on the box during the first eight rounds was when he finished fourth in San Diego, California, and fell in Tampa, Florida.

Unfortunately, an ankle slowed Roczen at the end of his Supercross season, and he only managed one more podium finish over the next five rounds.

Roczen entered the World Supercross Championship (WSX) to confirm his readiness for the 2026 SMX schedule. He won the season opener in Argentina and the third round in Australia, giving him a shot at the championship before retiring and handing the bike over to Colt Nichols.

Roczen’s performance in the SMX Playoffs and WSX suggests he will make a quick comeback in the season opener at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California.
