It’s no secret that McDonald’s Big Mac is one of the most popular items on the menu, in fact, the fast-food restaurant reportedly sells more than 550 million Big Macs in the United States each year. Order a Big Mac topped with tangy Big Mac sauce, come with a side of fries and a Coke, and you’ve got a classic Mickey D meal.
However, a former McDonald’s corporate chef says you should never order a Big Mac. Mike Haracz, a former manager of culinary innovation at McDonald’s, shared tips on TikTok, like when to avoid Mickey D’s restaurants, and edited a video of McDonald’s employees making a “McDouble Big Mac.”
“Don’t order the Big Mac; you should order this every time,” Halazi said. “McDonald’s like Mac.”
What to order instead of a Big Mac
For those who don’t know, a McDonald’s Big Mac starts with a bun with Big Mac sauce, onions, lettuce, cheese, a burger patty on another bun, more Big Mac sauce, more onions, more lettuce, pickles, another burger patty, and finally a top sesame seed bun. The Double Burger features two burger patties, cheese, onions, pickles, ketchup and mustard on a regular bun.
Instead of ordering a Big Mac, Haratz says you should order a Double “like a Big Mac,” which means ordering a Double with Big Mac sauce instead of ketchup and mustard, and adding chopped lettuce.
“This is a better way,” he said. “The McDouble has just one slice of cheese, like a Big Mac, and no bread in the middle. It’s tastier and cheaper.”
Yes, you can save money at McDonald’s too. Haracz says this will save you about $2, though the price may vary depending on your restaurant since franchisees can set their own menu pricing. This may not sound like one Not a big deal, but when a burger can cost you nearly $7 and a meal about $10, saving a few extra bucks is worth it in the long run.
The only problem with this menu hack is that you can’t use it when ordering online. McDonald’s doesn’t let you add Big Mac sauce to anything other than a Big Mac on its app, so you’ll have to ask a drive-thru employee or check in.
“If the restaurant doesn’t want to do it [this] For you, maybe don’t go to that place, go to another place,” Halazi said.
Additionally, some commenters claimed that their McDonald’s charged them for adding Big Mac sauce to their McDonald’s. Some say it’s an extra 40 cents, while others claim it’s an extra $2, so consider asking an employee if there’s an extra charge before you try to crack it.
