NEW YORK DAILY NEWS | GARY PHILLIPS: The Yankees are 7-6 in the ABS Challenge of the Grapefruit League as play begins Wednesday. The only loss was a challenge by Austin Wells behind the plate, but the batter’s challenge was timely and correct. The club has long preached about hitter knowledge and control of the strike zone, and that appears to be paying off during the major leagues’ first review process. The team is still figuring out how to implement their own strategy for the challenge once the competition actually gets underway, but for now, they’re probably best off just continuing to do what they’re doing.
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: My least popular party trick needs an update as the Yankees announced CC Sabathia’s No. 52 jersey will be retired with a pregame plaque ceremony on September 26, 2026. Monument Park is home to not only Yankee greats, but a who’s who of some of the most dominant players to ever wear a baseball jersey, and it’s great to see the former ace get his rightful place in Yankees history. New York Post | Greg Joyce: Will Warren will be asked to start the season strong as the Yankees wait for several of their big arms to return from injuries. Although he’s not quite bad By 2025, inconsistency in the game against right-handed hitters, especially against left-handed hitters, was plaguing right-handers, and lowering the tax was Warren’s main focus during training camp. Fortunately, Warren appears to be in the care of Clark Schmidt, who was in a similar situation to Ware two years ago, and if not for Tommy John surgery, Warren might have made the jump from touch pitcher to respectable rotation player.
NJ.com | Randy Miller: One of the recurring themes of the Yankees spring is that because the team signed so many players to major deals — deals that could hold up in their own right — there were a lot of “bubble” players who had to prove themselves in training camp. Jason Dominguez is likely one of those unlucky losers with a lot of outfield stuff, and frankly, he needs to polish up some defense and right-side hitting and would be perfect for Triple-A duty. The bullpen is also in disarray so far, with rookie Angel Chivili and last year’s rookie Brent Hedrick both vying for one of MLB’s final roster spots.
