Pool play is over – while a team can overcome previous losses, one bad night will now end their run in the tournament. For the U.S., which lost 3-1 to Italy in its final Group B game and then advanced to the quarterfinals with Italy’s help, everything will be at stake starting Friday night.
Team USA will be tasked with defeating the team that continues to rise in the WBC: Team Canada. Canada reached the quarterfinals for the first time ever, starting 3-1 in Group A and advancing to the knockout rounds.
