U.S. women’s hockey coach John Wroblewski cries after winning gold medal
Team USA knew Thursday that it would be medaling at the 2026 Winter Olympics, but with a long-standing rivalry with Team Canada — which often compete against each other for gold every four years at the Winter Olympics — the game meant much more than just a silver medal.
A tense game that went into overtime on a goal from Hilary Knight was ultimately won by Megan Keller’s goal in overtime for the United States.
Then John Wroblewski sat on the U.S. bench with tears in his eyes.
When Wroblewski reacted, his players huddled together in celebration and joy.
Wroblewski, 44, is the former head coach of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program and the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League. During his own career, he played at Notre Dame.
