SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — Firefighters in Sevier County responded to two brush fires caused by unauthorized burning on Wednesday. One of the fires damaged a building.
Sevier County Fire and Rescue announced Wednesday afternoon that crews responded to two fires, the first of which occurred in the 1000 block of Dudley Avenue. When they arrived, firefighters from Sevier County Fire Rescue and the Seymour Fire Department discovered a brush fire and were approaching nearby buildings and campers.

As crews battled the brush fire, firefighters also noticed black smoke billowing from an area two ridges away. Some firefighters on scene were dispatched to investigate a second plume of smoke and discovered a structure and brush fire in the 800 block of Harney Road.
Firefighters were having difficulty reaching the site of the fire on Harney Road due to the deterioration of the lane, which prevented fire trucks from reaching it. Crews used a nearby property to gain access to the area.
Sevier County Fire and Rescue said they are requesting assistance from the Tennessee Department of Forestry for both fires. Crews were able to contain and extinguish the brush fire.
The Dudley Drive fire burned 0.42 acre and caused minor damage to the building and camper, while the Haney Road fire burned about half an acre and was a total loss of the building. Sevier County Fire and Rescue said both fires were caused by unauthorized burning.
