U.S. Men’s National Team midfield mainstay Tyler Adams suffered a knee injury on Monday, December 15, which could severely impact his availability in a World Cup year.
Adams, who played for Bournemouth against Manchester United in the Premier League, was injured in a challenge with Matheus Cunha in the second minute and pulled out of the game.

After the game ended in a 4-4 draw, Bournemouth manager Andoni Illara said of Adams: “He’s definitely the worst news of the game. Sprained knee, I think medial collateral ligament. We’ll have to check it out and see if it’s a minor or major sprain.”
“Losing a player like Taylor means a lot to us, especially when you don’t have Lewis Cook (who is suspended). Alex (Scott) has to play in midfield and he does a really good job, but it’s bad news for us because Taylor is important for us.”
Adams, 26, is just days away from claiming Premier League Goal of the Month honors. In Bournemouth’s 3–2 away defeat on 29 November, he fired a shot from the center circle over Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs and into the net.
It was Adams’ second goal in three seasons at Bournemouth and four in the Premier League. He plays for Leeds United in the 2022-23 season.

Adams was the captain of the U.S. national team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which lost to the Netherlands in the round of 16. He has missed Team USA’s games through injury during this World Cup cycle, but if healthy when the World Cup takes place in North America next summer, he is expected to start in midfield.
Next, the U.S. team will gather in Atlanta to participate in friendly matches against Belgium on March 28 and Portugal on March 31. The U.S. national team will play Paraguay in the World Cup on June 12 in Inglewood, California.
