Hi, I’m Alexa, and I usually use this space to track Donald Trump’s “hot” economy, but we also need to examine how his policies affect ordinary people—especially his loyal followers. So, welcome to Donny hates watches.

It’s no secret that President Donald Trump has made it a goal to end social programs like the Affordable Care Act. huge part of his personality.

Throughout his first term, campaign season and second term as president, the 79-year-old continued to pursue programs aimed at helping low- and moderate-income Americans.

These include cuts to Medicaid, previous withholding of SNAP benefits and threats to suspend them in Minnesota, cuts to homeless assistance, proposed elimination of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, and more.

Despite the president’s blatantness, his loyal supporters are often surprised when projects they rely on are canceled.

Among them was this Trump voter we’ll call Diane. Diane lamented online the “rise” of social programs, which she described as “state control, redistribution and dependence.”

“The people celebrating tomorrow…will be the ones dealing with tax increases and budget shortfalls. Funding will dry up and run afoul of economic realities,” Diane posted online.

Diane said social democratic politics – defined by belief in a stronger social safety net – is dangerous and bad.

Unless those plans appear to be good for her family, as Diane also responded to one of Trump’s posts with the following: “We are patiently waiting for the prices to come down.”

“Unfortunately, federal cuts are hurting my elderly mother and other seniors — my mother was notified that there were no HEAP funds available. Why are there cuts to funding that helps people stay warm?” she asked.

NOTE: HEAP is a federally funded program designed to help low-income residents pay their heating and cooling bills. Plan has suffered delays after funding Trump cuts jobs.

In response to Diane’s post, commenters didn’t hesitate when trying to understand her shaky faith. Most people would quip, “You voted for that.”

Reddit user Divacai wrote: “Diana, you voted for your elderly mother to be self-reliant.”

“Diana, why did your mother need redistribution and socialism? Shouldn’t you be celebrating her end of dependence on the state? You got what you voted for,” CalcareousSoil added.

Others suggested that Diane pay for her mother’s care to avoid using a social program she strongly opposed.

“Socialism is bad, so I guess she’d better start paying utility bills on the gram,” PrivatePilot9 said. “I’m sure she has a ton of extra cash since everything has become so cheap in the past few months.”

This article raises hope that participants will know what kind of program they are signing up for.

ktaktb said: “I swear people should sign a document acknowledging that their ACA subsidies, their unemployment, their disability, their social security, their snap, their wic, their HEAP, their VA benefits, their medicare, etc. are all socialist policies.”

But who knows if that will help conservatives recognize their benefits.

“Diane learned the hard way what democratic socialism is,” said Insignificant.

Overall, commenters believe that MAGA tends to justify these programs to itself, with little understanding to others.

“The only moral charity is for my family, fuck everyone else— [Dianne,] Apparently,” I just love video games.
