Police have responded to claims that Savannah Guthrie’s brother-in-law, Tommaso Cione, is the prime suspect in the disappearance of her mother, Nancy.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department told TMZ February 4: “We have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case. Detectives are continuing to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie. We are also awaiting additional forensic results.”

They added, “We have no confirmation that the vehicle was impounded and we are not sure where this reporter got this information.”

Rumors about Cione’s involvement in the case began when former NewsNation host Ashleigh Banfield claimed Savannah’s brother-in-law had been identified as a suspect.
“While we appreciate the public’s concern, sharing unsubstantiated accusations or false information is irresponsible and does not aid the investigation,” another statement from the Sheriff’s Department said.

Tommaso Scioni was the husband of Anne Guthrie. The couple married in 2006 and have a son.
According to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, Anne was the last person to see Nancy. “We have a starting point,” Nanos told US Weekly. “The family sent her home from dinner around 9:30 to 9:45. [p.m.]. So we would even start looking at 9 or 8:30 at night. “
The sheriff also said there were no “red flags” in Nancy’s behavior before she disappeared. Nanos claims Nancy’s family ‘didn’t notice her’ [missing] Until around 11am the next morning,” police were called around 12:15pm. Authorities are currently investigating “any time between 9:30pm and 11pm.” [a.m.]” serves as the window into Nancy’s disappearance.
“This was an 84-year-old woman who was safely sleeping in her own home and she was taken away. This should never happen,” he continued. He also added that Nancy’s health was in critical condition as she was currently receiving medication, stressing that the results “could be fatal”.
According to the photo, Anne and Tommaso were first spotted driving on February 4, 2026 Page six. the night before, TMZ revealed that they had a purported ransom note demanding millions of dollars in Bitcoin. “It’s like any evidence,” Nanos told CBS News. “You give it to us, you give us a lead and we’re going to look at every aspect of that lead.”
