Texas A&M lost 93-80 to SMU in a roller-coaster game that ended with the Aggies losing in overtime due to poor ball control, allowing the Broncos to tie the game with less than 40 seconds remaining, ending their five-game winning streak.
As the saying goes, live by the sword and die by the sword. A&M looked to be aggressive and shoot a lot of 3-pointers, but that strategy put them behind in the first half. They shot a horrific 27.3% from the field and only 6.3% from beyond the arc, numbers that were difficult for any team to contend with and led to them falling behind 41-27 in the opening 20 minutes. However, they fought back to make it a contest and showed character that wasn’t evident earlier in the season.
“We just kept working hard. We were really bad with our 3-point shooting in the first half. Stick to what we did. Come all the way back, the good part is we were up by four with 45 seconds left.”
Despite the mounting losses, coach Bucky McMillan knows that as SEC play approaches, a performance like tonight’s won’t be enough.
“I can’t say that. You have to finish the game. We ended the game with three turnovers in a row. When you play a good team, it’s hard to win.”
