Stellar Blade’s Nintendo Switch 2 Port Reportedly in Development After Successful PC Launch

Korean developer Shift Up’s action game Stellar Blade launched on PC this month and became Sony’s biggest single-player Steam release ever. The success of the PC port has pushed the game’s cumulative sales to over 3 million copies on PS5 and PC. Shift is reportedly working on porting Stellar Blade to the recently launched Nintendo Switch 2. While Shift Up has yet to confirm a Switch 2 port of the game, the studio has previously told investors that it intends to pursue platform expansions for the IP.

Stellar Blade reportedly coming to Switch 2

According to Korean media PlayForum (and discovered by VGC), Shift Up has begun development of a Switch 2 version of Stellar Blade. According to reports, the studio recently obtained the official Nintendo Switch 2 development kit and has begun preliminary work on the port. According to reports, Shift Up has begun designing content for the Switch 2’s low-power architecture, unique portable interface, and mobile-oriented user experience.

Stellar Blade launched on PC on June 11 and quickly climbed onto the Steam bestseller list. The action game has reached a peak concurrent player count of over 192,000 on the platform, making it the largest single-player game Sony has ever released on PC. The PlayStation parent company released the game on PS5 and PC, but it’s unclear whether it will involve the reported Switch 2 port.

Star Blade Sequel

This week, Shift Up announced that Stellar Blade has sold over 3 million copies on PS5 and PC. The studio has confirmed a sequel to the game, which is scheduled to launch before 2027. Shift Up has yet to reveal details about the sequel to Stellar Blade, but studio CEO and Stellar Blade game director Kim Hyung-tae said the sequel will focus on delivering a deeper story.

In an interview with Korean media outlet This is Game, the director said that budget constraints meant that parts of Stellar Blade’s story had to be skipped. He claimed that the sequel will have a richer narrative.

Star Blade launched on PS5 on April 26, 2024 and has sold over 2 million copies on the platform. The game received widespread attention for its provocative character designs and gorgeous real-time action combat. On PC, Stellar Blade introduces additional content and platform-specific features such as ultrawide monitor support, unlocked frame rates, and more. New content released with the PC version is also being rolled out to the PS5 version of the game via free updates.
