(WFRV) – Shawano County officials say highway crews helped save the lives of two critically ill patients Monday morning during a historic snowstorm.
According to a news release from Shawano Ambulance Service, continued snowy conditions, heavy snowfall and drifting snow on highways have hampered all transfers from ThedaCare-Shawanaw Medical Center since Sunday evening.

On Monday morning, officials said two critically ill patients could no longer wait and their lives were in danger and they needed to be moved to a facility that could provide a higher level of care.
Faced with an impassable highway, crews from Shawano and Outagamie counties immediately went to rescue.
Two ambulances were said to be driven by a Shawano County plow truck from ThedaCare-Shawano Medical Center to the Shawano and Outagamie County lines in Bondur, where a plow truck from Outagamie County was waiting at the line to help the ambulances travel all the way to the Fox Cities.
It’s times like these that we see these “behind the scenes” agencies really come together and make real life-and-death efforts on behalf of people they have never met and may never know. If you know or see a plow driver, thank them for their service!
