According to details from patent documents, Samsung may be developing a device that could help the company enter the handheld gaming market. If the Korean technology group launches such a device in the future, it will compete with existing products such as the Nintendo Switch, Asus ROG Ally X, and Steam Deck. Unlike these devices, Samsung’s handheld gaming console features a foldable design, making it easier to carry around.

How Samsung Electronics Game Consoles Work

The patent document titled “Electronic Game Console” assigned to Samsung Display (via 91Mobiles) describes the design of the handheld gaming device, as well as several drawings showing the alleged game console design and some of its features from multiple angles.

Figure 8 in the patent document suggests that Samsung’s handheld game console may be similar to the shape of the company’s existing foldable game console Galaxy Z Flip series. As a foldable device, it has major advantages over other handheld gaming consoles on the market.

While it does look similar to a clamshell foldable phone, other images (Figure 1) suggest it will include other components such as a joystick. Meanwhile, Figures 2 and 3 give us an idea of where these raised parts are located so that the two halves can be closed.

Apparently, Samsung is describing a foldable gaming console, which means it will have to offer some protection technology to keep the display safe while in use. Figure 3 shows the crease on the display

According to the images in the patent document, some buttons and controls may be visible on the side of the device when it is folded (Figures 11 and 12). Figure 13, meanwhile, gives us a clear look at the hinge that connects the two halves of the foldable device.
