Luxury retailer Saks Global will close its Saks Fifth Avenue store in Palm Desert as part of a brand reorganization.
The store at 73-555 El Paseo is one of several Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus stores closing nationwide. The company filed for bankruptcy in January and hired a new CEO.
The latest closures come just weeks after the company announced it would close its discount stores. Affected Coachella Valley stores include the Saks OFF 5TH store off Highway 111 in Palm Desert and the Desert Hills Premium Outlets store in Cabazon, as well as the Neiman Marcus Last Call store in the Cabazon Outlet Mall.
“These actions are designed to advance Saks Global’s transformation with a focus on serving luxury customers, strengthening brand partnerships and driving full-price sales to achieve profitable and sustainable growth,” a company statement said.
Existing gift cards will continue to be accepted at any closing location for 15 days after closing sales begin, company officials said. After this period, gift cards will no longer be accepted at any closed location.
In a press release on March 6, Saks Global said it would close 12 Saks Fifth Avenue stores and three Neiman Marcus stores in 13 states. Other closures in California include a Saks store in Costa Mesa and a Neiman Marcus store in Canoga Park.
Even though it’s only two months away, 2026 is shaping up to be a tough year for Saks Global.
As early as January 14, the company announced it was filing for bankruptcy, changing leadership (again) and securing a $1.75 billion financing package that will “strengthen the company’s balance sheet and build a strong and stable future.”
Saks Global said in February that it was “refining the store footprint of Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus to focus on profitable locations with the highest growth potential.” The company attributed the closures to factors including performance and “lease economics.”
