New Delhi: India beat Pakistan by 61 runs on Sunday to book a spot in the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup. Ishan Kishan scored a brilliant 77 to help India reach 175/7 before the bowlers dismissed Pakistan for just 114 in 18 overs.

After the qualifying session, India captain Suryakumar Yadav praised his team and said, “I think this is India’s game,” adding, “Batting first is the better option on this wicket.”

He also praised Kishan’s knock, saying: “Ishan thought outside the box. Someone had to take responsibility after we went 1-0 down and the way he handled it was amazing.”

With this win, India qualified for the Super Eights.

Their next round of fixtures includes games against one of South Africa, Zimbabwe or Australia and the West Indies as they continue to defend their title.

India’s match in T20 World Cup Super 8 2026

  • IND vs SA (February 22, Ahmedabad)

  • IND vs ZIM/AUS (February 26, Chennai)

  • IND vs WI (March 1, Kolkata)

However, before starting their journey to the Super Eights, India will play their final group match against the Netherlands at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

Pakistan’s chase fizzled out quickly on Sunday. They lost three wickets in the first two overs, including captain Salman Agha and opener Sahibzada Farhan.

When Babar Azam bowled five runs, Pakistan were in deep trouble. Usman Khan tried to fight back with 44, but once stumped, the rest of the knock fell apart.

Earlier in the match, the two captains again avoided shaking hands during the throw-in, continuing a pattern seen at last year’s Asia Cup.

Kishan showed no fear, scoring 50 off just 27 balls and attacking the bowlers all over the field. His innings set a solid foundation for India and the bowlers ensured that Pakistan never came close in the chase.
