The Boston Red Sox released a statement after fans caused an uproar online over the team’s new jersey design.

When the 2026 Red Sox photos dropped, fans were quick to point out some glaring issues with the new look. Mainly, the “RED SOX” stitched font overlaps with the widened piping on the front of the uniform.

The Red Sox said Wednesday that the wider piping and collars on the 2026 uniforms are a return to the 2023 uniform template they signed off on. However, after seeing what was going on in the field, the team felt the wordmarks should be adjusted.

“As part of Major League Baseball’s return to 2023 uniform templates, we approved the design for the home white jerseys, which Fanatics produced exactly to our specifications. Once produced and seen in person, we felt there should be greater spacing between the lettering and piping,” the Red Sox said in a statement. “We are working with MLB and Fanatics to adjust the home white jersey to achieve this separation. The updated uniforms will be ready for Opening Day. We thank our partners for their continued support,” the club said in a statement.
