Three people have been charged in connection with the drug overdoses of seven Providence College students Friday night and early Saturday morning.
The students were treated with NARCAN and taken to hospital after an apparent drug overdose while attending a house party in Liège Street. During a follow-up investigation the next day, Providence police executed a search warrant on the second floor of 26 Hawkins Street, where they found 20 grams of fentanyl valued at $1,700.
“This investigation reflects the department’s continued commitment to combating the flow of deadly fentanyl and illegal firearms into our communities,” Col. Oscar Perez said in a statement. “The coordinated efforts of our Narcotics and Organized Crime Bureau ensure that dangerous weapons and drugs are removed from the streets of Providence.”
Two of the three were charged with multiple crimes. Angel Williams, 33, was charged with two counts related to possession of multiple firearms despite his previous convictions; two counts related to possession with intent to deliver cocaine and fentanyl; one count unlawful delivery of cocaine; one count conspiracy to possess with intent to deliver fentanyl; one count armed with a firearm in commission of a violent crime related to alleged drug possession; and one count possession of a high-capacity magazine.
Patrick Patterson, 32, has been charged with similar charges, including multiple counts of committing a violent crime with a firearm, also related to drug possession. However, unlike Williams, he and the third person arrested, 33-year-old Kimsheree Simoneau, were charged with possessing or controlling a ghost gun.
“The Providence Police Department will continue to work with community partners to reduce gun violence, combat drug trafficking and protect communities across the city,” the release said.
