A brief hallway confrontation at an Illinois high school became a meme after the video went viral, though not for the reasons teen “content creators” intended.

What happened at Lake Zurich High School?

On Thursday, Danny Spud posted a 47-second video shot with his Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. In the video, he walks through the front entrance of Lake Zurich High School holding a sign that reads “I love ice.” Meanwhile, other students participated in organized anti-ICE strikes at the school.

“Today, students at my Chicago high school held an anti-ICE protest,” Spud wrote in the post’s caption. As he walked down the aisle, he shouted, “We support ICE and law enforcement. I support ICE.”

A passing student said in disbelief, “This is crazy, man.” Spud retorted, “I don’t know what’s crazy about this.” Soon after, another student wearing a brown hoodie confronted him directly. “Yeah. I’m going to slap you in the face,” the student said.

“Are you going to hit me?” Spud asked. When the student responded “yes,” Spud responded, “Then you’re going to get in trouble for that.” The student simply responded, “Okay,” and then punched him as he warned.

The security guard standing nearby intervened immediately. As staff separated the students, Spud continued to speak to the camera. “I stand up for what I believe in,” he said. “I will stand here calmly and stand for what I believe in. I support ICE and law enforcement.”

Another student yelled: “Go away!” Spud’s response was described by many netizens as a weak protest. “This is against school rules. You can’t say bad words in school.” After all, the guy in the brown hoodie had just punched him. A bit of swearing is nothing compared to a physical confrontation.

How Danny Spader’s fist became a meme

Reposts of the video prompted a variety of comments, but it was through people sharing the video that the guy in the brown hoodie became a meme.

On Reddit, u/Chare1155 joked, “If I had witnessed this ballerina move in high school, I would 100% ask him to dance lol.”

Still, others criticized both sides. u/hypersnaildeluxe wrote that the Meta glasses showed bad intentions, adding that Spud was “definitely tricking staff into yelling at him so he could pull the right-wing cheat card and say wow, I’m being oppressed by school administrators.”

This is typical prank behavior from Danny Spud, whose whole schtick is to share “prank” videos of himself harassing strangers.

The tweet read, "

Likewise, u/LimonNerd argued, “I’m a big supporter of free speech, but Sign Kid gives me Charlie Kirk vibes. It’s clear that Sign Kid is being filmed capturing reactions, resulting in good viral content.”

As the discussion spread, a freeze-frame began to emerge. In the photo, the student is swinging, leaning back with a sharp expression.

The pose has been compared to superhero looks and even Pepe the Frog. @FranziaMom called it a “cinematic masterpiece,” while @DeepDishEnjoyer simply wrote: “Life imitates art.”

Spud complained about the Instagram ban on X.com, writing: “After receiving thousands of death threats and people celebrating my beating for holding a pro-ICE sign, I have been banned from @Instagram. Yet another attempt to silence me.”

A community note below the post, which fact-checks his claims, reads: “Danny was suspended after sharing a video of him pulling a fire alarm inside a public business, an act that violated Instagram’s Community Guidelines.”
