Penn State has a quarterback for the 2026 season. Former Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht has reportedly committed to Penn State through the transfer portal.
Becht will immediately fill a need at Penn State upon his arrival in Happy Valley. Considered by many to be one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal this offseason, the veteran passer has thrown for 9,274 yards and 64 touchdowns as Iowa State’s quarterback. Penn State will be without Drew Allar, who has been ineligible. Ethan Grunkemeyer, who finished the 2025 season as Penn State’s starting quarterback after Allar went down with a season-ending injury, entered the transfer portal. Penn State also saw Bekkem Kritza and Jaxon Smolik enter the transfer portal.

Penn State also added several quarterbacks to the class of 2026, including four-star Peyton Falzone and three-star Keith Evans (who previously signed with Iowa State in the early signing period). Becht will be a much-needed veteran leader as the team goes through a coaching transition. With Becht still having his final year of eligibility, he will be the perfect transition for Penn State from one offense to the next.
There are certainly a lot of familiar faces surrounding Becht. Penn State has added Iowa State assistants Jack Waters (quarterbacks coach) and Tyler Musser (offensive coordinator) to the coaching staff in the same roles, which should give Becht some comfort as he adjusts to his new surroundings. Penn State also received a transfer commitment from one of Becht’s top passing targets, tight end Benjamin Bramer.
