Recently, the Ecuadorian public was once again outraged by the case after a 2026 online video surfaced showing Luisa Espinoza dancing in what appeared to be a luxurious home. Since her arrest, the case involving thousands of alleged child pornography files remains unsolved.
Ecuadorian authorities confirmed that Luisa was arrested in February 2023 during a joint operation with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. She discovered thousands of files containing child sexual abuse material.
Espinosa was charged with being a member of a transnational network that distributed child exploitation material. Under Ecuador’s Comprehensive Organic Criminal Code (COIP), the crime is punishable by up to 16 years in prison.
Despite the seriousness of the charges, Luisa was released from pretrial detention after two months in detention. This was after a judge ordered her release. The move was criticized by prosecutors, leading the prosecutor’s office to file a complaint against the judge.
Since then, the case has been stuck in the Ecuadorian judicial system. Trial hearings scheduled for 2025 were canceled and the case remains unresolved.
Recently, the 2026 online video was widely circulated and once again sparked outrage in Ecuador. In the online video, Luisa Espinosa can be seen dancing in what appears to be a luxurious home. Questions have been raised about how a man accused of possessing more than 10,000 files of child sex abuse material remains at large while the case remains unsolved.
On social media, online commentators have been demanding information from Ecuador’s national police and prosecutor’s office about the investigation. They want to know whether authorities have been pursuing potential links to other criminal organizations.
The case remains before the Ecuadorian Office of the Special Prosecutor for Organized Transnational Crime (FEDOTI).
