Research firm DFC Intelligence has cut its 2025 global sales forecast for Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 video game console, citing uncertainty over tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The gaming and digital media company now forecasts Switch 2 sales of 15 million units this year, down from its previous forecast of 17 million units.

The forecast would still make the Switch 2 the fastest-selling console ever, but it’s indicative of the widespread uncertainty Trump’s tariffs are causing across industries.

Nintendo shares fell 4.3% in Tokyo on Wednesday morning. The benchmark Nikkei 225 index fell 4%.

Last week, Nintendo announced it would indefinitely delay taking pre-orders in the U.S. due to Trump’s announcement, which included a 46% tariff on goods from Vietnam, where many Switch consoles are produced.

“If prices rise significantly as a result of tariffs, a significant portion of potential buyers are likely to delay purchases until prices fall,” DFC Intelligence wrote.

Over the weekend, Vietnam offered to lift all tariffs on the United States. Nintendo has moved production from China to Vietnam as Trump waged a trade war against Beijing during his first administration.

Nintendo launched the Switch 2 last week and said it will be released on June 5 for $450 (approximately Rs. 38,980). It’s a bigger, more powerful version of the original Switch, with an annual lineup of games including new Mario Kart and Metroid titles.
