Nintendo is back with a direct demo that will showcase the Nintendo Switch games coming to the hybrid console this year. The Nintendo Direct presentation will be livestreamed on Tuesday, June 18 at 7am PT (7:30pm IST). The show is approximately 40 minutes long and focuses on Nintendo Switch games launching in 2024. The Nintendo Direct presentation takes place just days after the Xbox Games Showcase, where Microsoft provided updates on its first-party games.
The company confirmed in its X post that the head-to-head demo will not provide any updates on the Nintendo Switch successor, which is set to launch next year. The show will only showcase Nintendo Switch games launching in the second half of 2024.
The June edition of the Nintendo Direct was first confirmed in May, when Nintendo president Shuntaru Furukawa first provided the latest information on the successor to the Nintendo Switch console. “I am Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will announce the successor of Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. More than nine years have passed since the existence of Nintendo Switch was announced in March 2015.” Furukawa said on May 7. “We will hold a Nintendo Direct in June this year to introduce the Nintendo Switch software lineup in the second half of 2024, but please note that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will not be mentioned in this speech.”
This will be the third Nintendo Direct this year, following the company’s Partner Showcase and Indie World Showcase in February and April respectively. However, the direct presentation airing today will be the longest of the year, with approximately 40 minutes of announcements.
Additionally, ahead of the Nintendo Direct, legendary game director Shigeru Miyawa announced the Japanese release date for the new Super Mario animated movie. The sequel to the successful Super Mario Bros. Movie, first announced during the Nintendo Mario Day broadcast on March 10, will be released in Japan on April 24, 2026, and in the United States a few days later.
