Publisher Capcom confirmed the next Resident Evil game is in development during its summer showcase, which aired earlier Tuesday. The new game in the iconic survival horror series will be directed by Resident Evil 7 director Mitsushi Nakanishi. Capcom has not yet revealed the official title of the game, but it is expected to be Resident Evil 9. The last mainline game in the series, Resident Evil Village, was released in 2021.
The next Resident Evil movie has been confirmed
Nakanishi appeared towards the end of Capcom Next’s live broadcast to announce that work on the next Resident Evil game had begun. “We are making a new Resident Evil,” the director of Resident Evil 7 said during the live broadcast. “It was really hard to figure out what to do after seven o’clock. But I found it and it felt fulfilling, to be honest,” he added.

Development of the next Resident Evil game will be led by Nakanishi, who directed 2017’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Capcom didn’t reveal any further details about the upcoming RE game or its release window. “I can’t reveal any details yet, but I hope you’re excited for the day I can share it,” Nakanishi said.
Capcom next announcement
The news comes towards the end of the Capcom Next showcase, which highlighted three games from the publisher. During the livestream, the publisher revealed a demo of Kunitsujin: Path of the Goddess ahead of its release on July 19.
Capcom also announced the Dead Rising Deluxe Remastered Edition, which will bring several gameplay and visual improvements to 2006’s Dead Rising and is expected to be released on September 19.
Finally, the publisher has confirmed that Resident Evil 7 is now available on Apple devices. The survival horror game is playable on iPhone 15 Pro models, as well as all iPad and Mac models running Apple’s M-series chips.
Resident Evil Village is the last mainline game in the RE series and was released in May 2021 on PS4, PS5, Stadia, PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. The game was ported to iPhone and iPad late last year. Last month, Capcom confirmed that the game had sold more than 10 million units worldwide in the three years since its release, making it the fastest game in the Resident Evil series to reach that milestone.
