Newcastle United are planning a summer move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke, according to the Daily Mail.

Spurs are currently in 16th place, just one point above the relegation zone, after losing 3-1 at home to Crystal Palace on Thursday – a game in which Solanke scored Spurs’ only goal.

The north Londoners find themselves in a precarious position, with the threat of relegation looming as the season draws to a close.

If Tottenham fail to avoid a decline, expect an exodus of top earners in the summer. Even if they secure survival, a lack of European football could force chairman Daniel Levy to consider offers for key assets, with Solanke attracting interest.

Solanke has scored five goals in 14 appearances in all competitions this season but has struggled to maintain consistency in a struggling Spurs side.

Newcastle believe the striker is a good fit for Eddie Howe’s system and the prospect of a reunion with his former Bournemouth boss could appeal to the player.

A move to St James’ Park would also provide Solanke with a new challenge and the chance to compete for a top-six spot.

With Tottenham’s top-flight status in doubt and Newcastle determined to strengthen their squad in a bid to re-enter Europe, Solanke’s situation will be one to watch when the summer transfer window opens.

Meanwhile, the England international will be hoping to help his side get through a daunting run of games as they head to Anfield to face Atletico Madrid twice in eight days.
