Joan Laporta and Victor Font will go head-to-head in Barcelona’s ongoing elections today as the pair vie to become the club’s next president.
Laporta is the current president hoping to be re-elected, while Fonte has become a real force by introducing radical new ideas.

However, most first-team players appear to be backing Laporta, with Lamine Yamal being a prime example.
On the day of the election, Yamal posted a photo of himself and the former Barcelona president to express his support for Laporta, who even expressed his gratitude to Yamal for his support.
Victor Font responds to Yamal’s support for Laporta
Laporta’s challenger Fonte was recently asked about Yamal, arguably Barcelona’s most valuable player at the moment, and his public support for Laporta.
In response, the presidential candidate explained Yamal’s point of view, adding that Laporta has only witnessed one president so far in his short career.

“Lamine is an employee of the club and Laporta is the only Barcelona president he has ever known.” he said.
This was Fonte’s calm reply that he could not play against Yamal because the young Spaniard was the most valuable player in the team and had a huge following.
Font is counting on the support of club legend Lionel Messi, which is sure to swing the election in his favour.
However, the Argentine chose not to interfere in the Barcelona elections and decided not to participate in the process, which was a major blow to Font.
As things stand, Laporta remains the favorite to win the presidential election and be re-elected, while Fonte’s bid to become Barcelona president may yet again fail.
