A new FIFA football video game will launch during next year’s FIFA World Cup. The “reimagined” football simulation game will be available exclusively on Netflix Games, the streaming company announced on Wednesday. Netflix said the new FIFA game will be developed and published by Delphi Interactive. FIFA and Netflix didn’t reveal details about the upcoming mobile game, but said Netflix subscribers will be able to play alone or online with friends.
The 30-year partnership between global soccer’s governing body FIFA and Electronic Arts, makers of the long-running and popular FIFA video game series, comes to an end in 2022. Since then, EA has continued to produce football games under the EA Sports FC brand. FIFA has said it will create a new game with an official license. The Netflix Games mobile game will be the first football game to bear the FIFA name since FIFA 23.
The game will be tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held on June 11 in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The mobile game should be released around the same time. Netflix said in a statement that the game will allow players to experience “the emotion and drama of a tournament.”
The game is a reimagining of the FIFA series and will be developed and published by Delphi Interactive, a self-proclaimed AAA studio. On its website, the developer describes itself as “the designer who worked with IO Interactive on 007 First Light and the company that spearheaded the return of the beloved FIFA simulation game.”
FIFA game to launch on mobile devices and select TVs
Netflix subscribers will be able to play the upcoming FIFA game alone or with friends for free on their mobile devices. The football game will also be shown on select TVs in certain countries. The game will likely feature simplified touch controls to replace the deeper football simulation mechanics found in console football games like EA Sports FC.
“We want to bring football back to its roots and make it available to everyone at the touch of a button,” said Alain Tascan, president of games at Netflix.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the redesigned game would mark the beginning of a “new era of digital football”.
“FIFA is very excited to partner with Netflix Games and Delphi Interactive ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This major partnership is an important milestone in FIFA’s commitment to innovation in the field of football games. FIFA aspires to reach billions of football fans of all ages around the world and will redefine the pure concept of simulation games.” Infantino said.
Delphi Interactive founder and CEO Casper Daugaard said the studio is a “lifelong FIFA fan.”
“Our mission is simple: make FIFA the most fun and accessible global football game ever,” added Andy Kleinman, President of Delphi Interactive.
Netflix Games didn’t share any gameplay or screenshots of the upcoming FIFA game, but said more details would be available in 2026.
